New Dog, No Stress
Welcome dog lovers! Today I’m chatting with Cory Turner who is the Co-Founder of Dogly.com which she started with her mom Jane and 4 rescue dogs. Cory & Jane started Dogly because they believe having a dog should be the best experience ever but they were constantly wondering if they were making the right decisions for their own dogs and stressing over questions like “why does Bozley bark at big dogs” or "what can we do to support Houzton's doxie back and joints early on." That's why they started Dogly, to help pet parents worry less by vetting & bringing together a community of trainers, nutritionists, and other wellness advocates so pet parents can join their community and shop recommended products all in one place.
Bringing a new dog into your home does require some planning. What are things that we should prepare for?
What’s the best way to get a dog used to their new surroundings so as to reduce the stress for you and them?
Would you recommend adding calming aids such as CBD, essential oils, rescue remedy?
Give them freedom to roam the house or start off in certain area?
Crate train?
Introduce them to other pets in the house or keep them separated in the beginning?
I assume that sticking to a routine would be crucial, especially in the beginning?
How do shelters work? Do most euthanize if dogs aren’t adopted? How long is that window usually?
Do some shelters that have purebreds automatically give them to rescue groups? How does that work?
Let’s talk about fostering. It must take a special person to foster and I’ve heard so many stories of foster fail dogs. How can you not become attached?
Why might a dog need foster care?
