No Gut, No Glory!
Hello dog lovers! It’s going to be a fantastic show because we have the one and only Dana Scott with us today and she’s the Founder and Editor in Chief of Dogs Naturally Magazine and CEO of Four Leaf Rover, a high end natural supplement company. She also breeds award winning Labrador Retrievers under the Fallriver prefix. Dana has been a raw feeding, natural rearing breeder since the 90's and is a sought-after speaker and outspoken advocate for natural health care for dogs and people. Dana works tirelessly to educate pet owners so they can influence veterinary medicine and change current vaccine, food and preventive health practices.
We’ve had Billy Hoekman from Answer’s Pet Food on the show and he said that 84% of the immune system is based in the gut. We really need to pay attention to this… So Dana, why don’t you start with why gut health is so important.
Why do you think that the gut microbiome is considered the forgotten organ?
What are the key functions of the microbiome?
How do some diets contribute to inflammation and leaky gut?
What is the best diet for a healthy immune system?
Can you explain how healthy fats create a diverse microbiome?
What are good sources of Omega 3s? and did you say that your team is working on a new product that will contain Omega 3s?
And I what about fruits and veggies? How do they play into diet and enhance the microbiome?
What is your thought on supplements to help boost the immune system? Particularly pro and prebiotics?
So, the more diverse the good bacteria in the gut, the better. How many strains of good bacteria should dogs have in their gut?
Besides a poor diet, what are some other things that can harm the microbiome?
Once we have a healthy gut, what improvements might we see in our dog?
In a perfect world, what is the right amt of protein, fat and carbohydrates that we should be feeding our dogs?
